As the mid-Atlantic Regional Operations Manager for Ritchie Bros., I’m currently on the hunt for a fantastic Lead Autobody Painter to take charge of our detailing, body and paint shop.

You’ll be managing three people to start off with, but we’ve got our sights on considerable growth so your team and responsibility will likely expand quite a lot with time. It’s a critical role for us and a golden opportunity to grow within a large company.

In fact, this is the most unique role you’re going to come across in your career! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take all of the skills that you’ve learned so far in this industry, put them all together and touch some of the biggest, most expensive, most unique gear in existence.

There are so many great things you’ll be able to attach yourself to career-wise with this role, so for the right person, it’s going to open a lot of doors.

Sound interesting? Here’s a bit more about the role.

A day in the life of our new Lead Autobody Painter

Our Lead Autobody Painter will oversee all the detailing, washing and paint processes at our northeast Maryland location.

Days will kick off with a safety meeting and from there, you’ll jump into sorting through what is coming through the wash bays, looking at the status of everything currently in the facility and delegating work out to other teams.

Then you’ll help your teamwork through their cues in the wash, blast booth, paint and final prep areas. Following this, you will work with one of our refurbishment coordinators on customer billing, as well as quotes for prospective customers.

You will also keep an eye on all the shop materials and run through preventative maintenance checks to make sure we’re adequately supplied, and all our gear is in top working order, ordering in services and parts as needed.

What we’re looking for

We don’t want an ‘okay’ candidate for this role — we want someone who’s great at the job and happy to get their hands dirty with their team. It’s definitely a hands-on learning and leading type of role, so we’re looking for someone who’s used to being out ‘in the field’ with their team and handling multiple projects at once.

There is a base of functional knowledge necessary, which means auto body painting and washing/detailing experience is necessary. If you’ve done any body work as well, that is a big plus.

Every day will be a little different and every job will be a little different. We’re not painting the same 15 cars over and over again: today it’s a crane, tomorrow it’s a mixer. To that end, we’re after someone who can think outside the box to solve problems and get things done the right way. We might adjust prices and time allocations for specific project types, depending on what we learn as we go, so good critical-thinking skills are a must as well.

Ultimately, this role is very much about being a boots-on-the-ground leader who’s involved in the processes, understands what the team is doing, and guides them to success.

Are you the right person for the job?

This role is an amazing opportunity for anyone who’s passionate about our industry and fits the bill experience-wise. We have a history of being one of the most productive paint shops in the US and we’re in the most growth-prone region of the country. We already have a huge volume of business beating down our door waiting for us to open.

Now that we’re getting it going properly, it’s truly a way to make your mark. Come in as a Lead Autobody Painter and show what you can do, help us build the business up and set the bar for Ritchie Bros. This shop may spur sites all around the globe for us.

Culturally, this is one of the best companies you’ll come across. Everyone at Ritchie Bros. has initiative, accountability, and integrity — we’re all about teamwork and supporting each other. Every day you’re going to be pulling all sorts of heavy auto-equipment in through the door and popping it out the other side looking brand new.

So, if you’re into cars, machinery and construction, there’s no better place to be!
